Did You Know?

  • The wingspan of an adult Snowy Owl often exceeds 1.5 meters.
  • Sometimes Snowy Owls even hunt hares and ptarmigans.
  • Snowy Owls are mostly silent throughout the year, vocalizing only during the breeding season with a call resembling a short, abrupt bark similar to a dog.
  • The Snowy Owl has three pairs of eyelids: one is used for blinking, the second protects its eyes during flight, and the third is used during sleep.
  • Its unique body structure allows the owl to rotate its head up to 270 degrees. Its eyes remain fixed, so if the bird wants to look sideways, it will turn its head, as its eyes are fixed looking straight ahead.
