Lifespan: In the wild, red foxes live from 3 to 7 years. In captivity, their lifespan can reach 20-25 years.

Habitat: The red fox has a wide distribution range: it inhabits throughout Europe, northern Africa (in Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia), Asia (up to northern India, southern China, and Indochina), and North America from the Arctic to the northern Gulf of Mexico. The red fox has been acclimatized in Australia where it has successfully settled, except in the sub-equatorial regions.

Diet: The main diet of foxes consists of small rodents, primarily voles.

  • The secretion from the anal glands of foxes has a violet-like scent, especially strong during the breeding season.
